First, the fleece is spun and dyed using all natural plant pigments.
No, it’s not purple spaghetti. The dyed wool is boiled in pots over wood fires.
Washed and hung to dry, it’s ready for weaving.
These women come from the villages and weave at the Awana Kancha exhibition Centre for only two week stints. Their work is sold at the Centre with proceeds going back to the community. Stunning woven textiles – better than anything I’ve seen.
