Yesterday I hired a guide to take me to some of the remote villages in the mountains where the tourists don’t go. What a day! A short way into the trip Costas, my guide, tells me he is an anarchist – but the good kind! We spent the day talking, eating and drinking with locals – well he talked and I took pictures! In this village we were even treated to a tour of a house from the Venetian times […]

I’ve been in Crete for three days now and hitting 60% on shutter banging winds and rain. So much for 365 days of sunshine. However, the one day the sun shone was blissful and made the place magical. The Great Khejarli Sacrifice Almost every fort or palace in Rajasthan has a story of a great struggle to defend territory and ultimately a way of life. Lookout towers and serpentine ramparts built to protect ruling maharaja stretch for miles. The story of the Bishnois people and their struggle to maintain a pure way of life is less grandiose but equally enduring as the epic tales of the maharajas. I had spent several days in Jodhpur, the famous blue city […]

Jantar Mantar is a enormous open air observatory built in 1728 by Maharaja Jai Singh. He was extremely knowledgeable and passionate about astrology and measurement. It looks more futuristic rather than almost 300 years old. Heath & safety is not high on the priority list. Check out the ladder! Safety harness!???
